Formerly the Turkish cruiser ‘Medzhediye’ which sunk near Odesa on 21st March 1915 on a sea mine, after which it was raised and became part of the Black Sea Fleet. This ship lay in dock being repaired for a long time, which is why it only managed to take part in naval operations in 1916, most notably in the Trebizond Campaign. From 1917 a Ukrainian organisation existed on the ship. At the end of 1917 the ‘Prut’ required additional repairs and so was out of action. At which point it came into Bolshevik hands. But on the 29th April 1918, in Sevastopol, along with other ships of the Black Sea Fleet, she raised the Ukrainian flag.
